"Understanding the Process of Semiconductor Obsolescence and Financial Impact to Equipment Manufacturers and What Options are Available to Mitigate the Risk.”

Author to be announced.

abstract:
Once an original chip manufacture (OCM) determines a semiconductor life cycle has matured, the end-of-life (EOL) process begins. The PCN alert is publicized and the need for risk mitigation is required.

Post the last-time-buy (LTB) period, our franchised OCMs will ship Rochester Electronics their entire residual inventory; finished goods, WIP goods, wafer, and the intellectual property (some items are retained due to licensing).

Inventory classification is as follows;
  • Finished Goods”; product that was packaged, tested and marked by the OCM.

  • WIP Goods; product that was packaged and not tested or marked. We get the authorization and equipment to finish the process.

  • Wafer; the OCM will send wafer level to Rochester. In addition, we receive authorization and technical support to package, test, and mark accordingly.

At that time, we proactively determine a product strategy for our key customers. The strategy varies based on customer program requirements and their end product lifecycle.

  • Immediate delivery; we have 2 billion devices (finished goods) in stock.

  • Long Term Storage; firm fixed pricing and guaranteed supply. Both for finished goods and or wafer build-out based on customer’s requirement.

  • SPA; Rochester procures the entire EOL quantity and ships per disbursement schedule over a period of years.

  • Device Re-Creation; if a device no longer exists, Rochester will obtain authorization to re-create the device in a mirror image of the OCM. This product is guaranteed to perform in accordance to the OCM specifications.

about ROCHESTER ELECTRONICS:
Rochester Electronics, the ULTIMATE aftermarket solution for semiconductors. Since 1981, it has been our mission to provide a reliable continuing source of products discontinued by the original manufacturer. Authorized by over 40 manufacturers, there is no greater source of aftermarket devices.
  • Over two billion devices in stock.

  • Over 10 billion die in stock.

  • Continuing to manufacture over 20,000 devices.

  • Manufacturing flows from commercial to fully certified military.

Rochester's corporate headquarters, distribution and manufacturing facilities are located in the historic seaport community of Newburyport, Massachusetts. Sales offices are also located throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Rochester is a privately owned and managed company. Founded by Curt Gerrish, President and CEO, an industry veteran, whose vision was to create a legitimate and reliable source for products that had been discontinued by the original manufacturer. Over 25 years later, Rochester has established itself as the industry's premier aftermarket solution.

Rochester's manufacturing product list contains more than 20,000 devices discontinued by the original manufacturer. Our goal is to provide a continuing manufacturing source of your long term semiconductor requirements. Many devices with continuing high demand are manufactured for stock and are in most cases available immediately. Devices with low demand are manufactured on a make to order basis. Rochester diligently expedites this process to deliver devices as quickly as possible.
